The Story

This true story begins with a lifelong dream: to see gorillas up close, in their natural habitat. That dream led three former work colleagues to reconnect and plan a journey that would forge a bond none of them anticipated—not only between the three of them, but also with the local people they met along the way.

What followed were two unforgettable weeks of mishaps, miracles, and moments that would redefine everything they thought they knew about life, adventure, and the fragile relationship between humans and some of the world’s most dangerous animals.

From watching lions play just meters away, to driving through small villages while dodging chickens, goats, cows, and children along dusty roads; from sharing lunch by a lake as a python swam past—unbothered locals looked on, reminding them that fear is often a matter of perspective.

Under Ugandan Skies is a love letter to the country that changed everything—sometimes quietly, sometimes chaotically, and always unexpectedly.

About the Author

Mimi Beauchamp, author

Mimi Beauchamp

Mimi Beauchamp is a devoted mother and grandmother. She is always keeping busy, going for walks, cycling, kayaking or skiing. On rainy days, she is either planning a trip, on a trip, or researching her next trip, much to the exasperation of her husband. She also volunteers for the Red Cross and enjoys learning various languages.

This may be Mimi's first book, but it won’t be her last. With a well-used passport and a habit of turning adventures into stories, she has plenty more travels—and tales—still to share.

She currently lives between Montreal, Canada and wherever her passport takes her next.
